biography

Alison Chung-Yan is a new media artist and composer based in Ottawa, Canada.

From video projections and soundscapes to net art and interactive installations, her work has been exhibited internationally at galleries, festivals and museums including: Images Festival (Toronto), Leonardo’s Global Crossings exhibition (USA), Java Museum for Internet Technologies in Contemporary Art (Germany), La Casa Encendida (Spain), Island Art Film and Video Festival (UK) and the 2004 Biennale of Electronic Art (Australia).

Inspired by Life’s rhythms and cycles, her work has been awarded grants by the Canada Council for the Arts, Ontario Arts Council and the Corel Endowment Fund for the Arts.  She continues to seek opportunities to bring time-based art into public spaces through her company, Sonic Scape Productions.

A classically trained pianist, Alison also holds a B.A.Sc. (Honours) Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Waterloo, a Diploma in Sonic Design (New Media Program) from Carleton University and is an alumnus of the Canadian Screen Training Centre’s Summer Institute for Film & Television.  She has served as a sessional lecturer on the Faculty of Music at Carleton University in Ottawa where she taught third-year courses in Computer Music and is a member of CARFAC (Canadian Artists’ Representation/le Front des artistes canadiens), SOCAN (Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada) and the Guild of Canadian Film Composers.
